Hello everybody on the Forum;
I just had to tell you all about this!
The LS650 seems to be a very stable motorcycle as I have just recently experienced. While riding down a country blacktop at about 40-45, a groundhog darted out in front of me before I had a chance to react. As you may know, a groundhog is a tough critter, bigger and heavier than a rabbit. The front wheel jumped over it and rolled him under the bike into the back wheel, there was a slight wobble at the back wheel, none at all at the front, overall, the bike was really very stable. Years ago I hit a rabbit with a 1952 Harley 74 FLH at about 50 mph, and that big bike wobbled worse than the Savage. It seems to me that the greater than usual rake contributes to it's stability, although I would not want to go around trying to see what I could jump over before it wobbled out of control, nevertheless, I have developed a certain confidence in the bikes steadiness. Has anyone else ever had experiences in this area? Can you compare with other motorcycles?
Another thing I wanted to pass on, I found a company on the web that sells drive belts for Harleys. The trouble is, they do not sell direct, too bad! They have a belt that is 1/2" thick, 1 1/2" wide at 133 teeth for (their price) $105. When you check out the dealer price it's easy to see that they are making from 200% to 300% mark-up. There oughta be a law!
